This is the biography of a most distinguished Ethiopian scientist- an exceptional Purdue alumnus.  Dr. Yirgou earned B.Sc. ’55, M.S.’61 and Ph.D.’64 while at Purdue.  He devoted most of his life to research and teaching.  Shortly after becoming the Minister of Agriculture, he was killed by the Marxist Dergue regime in control of that country in 1975.  A scholarship Program has been established at Purdue University to honor his memory and work.

Aman Andom

A Profile in Courage

This is a biography of the most distinguished miltary officer in Ethiopian/Ertrean history. He led the first contingent of Ethiopian troops to Korea and he was the victorious commander of the 3rd. Division of the army in the Ogaden border campaign in 1962. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant-General and assumed the Chairmanship of the Provisional Military Administrative Council (PMAC) that took over power after the overthrow of the Haile Selassie regime. Policy differences (military solution vs peaceful resolution of the Eritrean conflict) led to a confrontation with the radical elements of the Dergue leading to a shootout in which Gen. Aman lost his life.
